Twin Screw Extruder Machine
The twin screw pellet extruder is mainly used for producing high-end fish, shrimp or pet food for cats and dogs. Its extrusion system adopts a fully meshed, zero-gap twin-screw mechanism, combined with a double-metal material inner liner of the extrusion chamber, which can reasonably distribute the shear force in the extrusion chamber and control the maturation time and expansion coefficient of the material. Even if the raw materials contain a lot of oils, fibers or water, it can still be easily processed.
Single Screw Extruder Machine
The single screw extruder machine is more economical and suitable for small-scale production. If your requirements for the extruded feed are not high, you can consider the single screw extruder machine. It works smoothly for ordinary feed as well. Additionally, it can be divided into two processes (dry method and wet method), which can be used for making coarse feed or fine feed. The main difference is whether there is a conditioning step before the extrusion granulation.

This extruder machine is specifically designed for fish feed and can produce floating, sinking and slow-sinking fish feed. Under the twin-screw extrusion process, it can produce feed with regular pellets that are resistant to water soaking.
Shrimp Feed Extruder Machine
To meet the feeding habits of shrimp, the shrimp feed must have an appropriate hardness and not disintegrate even after long-term soaking. Otherwise, it would cause feed waste and pollute the water quality. The twin screw shrimp feed extruder machine produced by RICHI has high-quality pellets and does not have the above problems.
Pet Food Extruder
It can be used to produce pet food such as cat food and dog food. The high-temperature expanded feed can improve palatability and has a higher digestion and absorption rate. During the expansion extrusion process, standard molds of φ0.6mm – φ20mm can meet the needs of different pellet specifications.
Single Screw Extruder Machine
The single screw extrusion equipment mainly has two processes: dry method and wet method. You can choose the one that suits your raw materials or product requirements.
Wet Type Extruder Machine
When using the wet process, a conditioner is needed to allow the material to fully mix with the steam in the mixer. This will enable the material to fully gelatinize. If it is used to produce freshwater fish feed, the floating property of the extruded pellets will also be better.
Dry Type Extruder Machine
This process does not require a conditioner. It mainly relies on the frictional heating during extrusion. It can be used to produce sinking shrimp feed, crab feed, etc., or to turn biomass raw materials such as straw and rice husks into pellets. Its process flow is shorter and is suitable for regular pellet feed production.

Cleaning
Have you ever encountered a situation where there are hard lumps or impurities in the raw materials? The importance of this step is self-evident, its main objective is to remove impurities such as metals, stones, and other contaminants from the raw materials to prevent them from colliding with subsequent equipment in the production line, causing equipment damage and affecting the quality of the feed.
Crushing
Extruders are used in the production of feed for fish, shrimp, and pets. These processes have strict requirements for raw material processing, requiring the raw materials to be pulverized to a specific fineness to improve pellet quality. If you are producing aquatic animal feed, these pellets will also have better stability in water, are less prone to collapsing, and help protect water quality.
Mixing
If you want to mix some nutrients into the raw materials to improve the nutritional value of the feed pellets, you can use a mixing device. It can mix all the raw materials thoroughly through precise measurement, and there will be no uneven proportions. This will save you a lot of trouble. This step is the key to ensuring the nutritional balance of the feed.
Extrusion
The thoroughly mixed raw materials are fed into the extruder and then into the conditioner. Our conditioner has a thicker tube than most conditioners on the market, allowing for more thorough maturation and gelatinization of the raw materials. The conditioned raw materials then enter the expansion chamber, where, under the high temperature, high pressure, and shearing action of the screw, they are instantly extruded from the opening at the front of the template, expanding to form a porous and loose granular structure.
Drying
Because of the high-temperature steam treatment in the conditioner, freshly extruded aquatic feed has a high moisture content, making it prone to mold growth if stored directly for extended periods. Drying equipment can evaporate excess moisture, reducing the water content and extending the feed’s shelf life.
Spraying
Both pelleting and drying processes involve high temperatures, which inevitably leads to the loss of some heat-sensitive nutrients. The principle of a vacuum spraying machine is that it can evenly spray some oils, vitamins, etc. on the surface of the finished pellets and penetrate into the extruded feed. This can not only make up for the nutritional gaps in the pellets, but also improve the palatability of the feed.
Cooling
After passing through multiple high-temperature stages, feed pellets need to be cooled down promptly, as excessively high temperatures are detrimental to storage. To prevent spontaneous combustion of the pellets, cooling equipment is necessary. Cooling not only prevents nutrient loss but also makes the feed more compact, creating favorable conditions for subsequent screening, packaging, storage, and transportation.
Screening
Pellets that cool suddenly may contain broken pieces or powder, affecting their appearance and consequently their marketability. Want all feed pellets to be the same size? Screening equipment can easily achieve this. It removes pellets that don’t meet specifications or are broken, leaving only uniform finished products, resulting in better-quality extruded feed.
Packaging
Packaging is the final step in the production process. You can set a certain weight, such as 10 catties, 20 catties, etc. Our weighing and packaging machine can accurately control the weight and then automatically package and seal it. You only need to pull the packaged pellets away for storage. The whole process can be fully automated, requiring little manpower and saving a lot of costs.

How should I choose between a twin-screw extruder and a single-screw extruder?

Let me briefly explain the differences between these two types of extruder machines in plain language.
The extruder with twin screws has two intermeshing screws in the extrusion chamber. The materials are repeatedly sheared and mixed by these screws, making it more capable of processing high-oil and high-fiber raw materials, and it is more suitable for making high-end aquatic feed or pet food.
The structure of the single-screw extruder is simpler and the price is more affordable. However, the extrusion principles are similar. It is suitable for making ordinary floating fish feed, sinking shrimp and crab feed.

The wet process requires a boiler system and has an additional conditioning step compared to the dry process. The dry process mainly relies on friction to generate heat and can be used with electricity. The investment cost is lower than that of the wet process. It is suitable for sinking shrimp and crab feed or some biomass pellets.
Is the dry process more energy-efficient than the wet process?

This is not absolute. The dry process mainly relies on the motor to generate heat through friction, and the electricity consumption is generally higher than that of the wet process. However, the wet process requires a boiler to burn steam, so there is also a fuel cost. You should not only look at the electricity meter but also consider the overall cost.
