The straw gets squeezed hard between a ring die and rollers, and out comes dense, stable pellets with a good heating value.
Whether you want roughage for cattle and sheep, or clean-burning biomass fuel, our straw pellet machine can get you there. It uses proven ring-die technology. It works great with pure straw, but you can also mix in soybean meal, corn flour, or other ingredients – adjust the formula however you like to meet feed or fuel specs.This machine hooks up easily to crushers, coolers, and baggers, so you can set up a full straw pellet line.
Key Components of Straw Pellet Machine
Straw is pretty light. So getting it from the hopper into pellets isn’t just about feeding – you also have to deal with the challenges of pressing high-fiber material. How does RICHI’s straw pellet machine solve these problems? Once you look at the main parts, you’ll probably get the idea.
Feed Inlet
Straw from various crops is relatively light, and using a conventional straw pellet machine can easily cause blockages at the inlet.
To avoid this, we have equipped the straw pellet mill with a variable frequency feeder featuring an arch-breaking device. This feeder adjusts the feeding speed to prevent the straw pellet machine from overloading or idling, and works in conjunction with the counter-rotating double rollers to thoroughly break up the straw, allowing it to enter easily without arching or bridging.
Forced Feeder
The special design at the feed inlet alone isn’t enough. To ensure the straw material doesn’t get stuck or bridge before entering the pelleting chamber, we’ve added an extra layer of protection: a forced feeder.
When the straw material enters through the feed inlet, if it can’t fall due to fiber entanglement, the forced feeder will activate, using mechanical force to push the material into the pelleting chamber, completely eliminating the risk of blockage.
Conditioner
If you want to use a straw pellet machine to make feed for ruminants such as cattle and sheep, we can also install a conditioner on the machine to mature and gelatinize the raw materials.
The conditioner of the RICHI straw pellet making machine is made of 304 stainless steel and features dual-shaft paddles. These paddles scatter the material, facilitating thorough mixing with the steam injected into the conditioner. This softens the straw fibers, giving them high plasticity and making them easier to shape during subsequent pressing.
Pelletizing Chamber
This is the heart of the entire pellet mill, containing several key components.
Pressure Roller: Our pressure rollers are specifically designed for biomass. Their surface has a toothed texture that allows them to fit tightly against the ring die, firmly gripping the smooth fibrous material and compressing it thoroughly.
Ring Die: A ring with many small holes of the same diameter. After being conditioned at high temperature, the straw is squeezed into these holes by the pressure roller, ultimately forming the pellets.
Cutter: The formed material is extruded from the die holes, forming long, strip-shaped pellets. The cutter cuts these pellets into uniform lengths, making them appear more regular.

The ring die is made of 42CrMo alloy steel with a carburized, hardened surface – hardness HRC 58–62. That’s way more wear-resistant than stainless steel, so it handles high-fiber straw without breaking a sweat. The holes are precision-machined to a finish of Ra ≤ 0.8 µm, so material flows out smoothly and doesn’t stick. Compression ratio is adjustable from 1:10 to 1:18. Just swap the ring die to a different hole size, and you can make pellets of various diameters.
High Efficiency and Wear Resistance
We use Siemens motors – a solid brand. You can choose from 22 kW all the way up to 250 kW. That kind of muscle handles the resistance you get when compressing straw. And with a precision-ground gearbox, the straw pellet machine can run 24 hours straight without a problem.
Plenty of Power
The body is built from heavy, thickened steel. That reduces vibration when the machine runs and gives solid support to the core components inside.
If something jams or the machine gets overloaded, the protective mechanisms kick in. A safety pin breaks, and a limit switch shuts things down automatically. That protects the ring die and rollers from damage, keeps repair costs down, and also helps keep your operators safe.

What raw materials can a straw pellet press process?

Besides those, it also handles wood chips, sawdust, rice husks, palm fiber, and other biomass materials. Just make sure you crush and dry the straw properly before processing. That’s the key to good pellet formation.
Can the straw pellets be fed to cattle and sheep?

Feed the material as evenly as you can – don’t overload the machine. When you get a new machine, it’s a good idea to “break in” the ring die by running it with an oily material to polish the holes. Also, before you shut down for a while, fill the die holes with something oily to prevent rust.
